ABOUT HELEN

Helen Milroy — Violinist & Music Educator

Helen Milroy is a versatile violinist and dedicated teacher based in Dumfries & Galloway, performing and teaching across the UK. A graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music and former student of Chetham’s School of Music, Helen has built a vibrant career spanning classical performance, musical theatre, chamber music, and orchestral work.

As a freelance violinist, Helen has performed for major musical theatre productions throughout Manchester and Chester, including Miss Saigon, Jekyll & Hyde, Beauty and the Beast, Guys and Dolls, West Side Story, and The Sound of Music. She has also toured medley shows with former West End performers from Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, appearing at renowned venues such as The Lowry Theatre, Theatre Severn, Cast Theatre, and the Epstein Theatre. Her performance highlights include appearing on stage with Britain’s Got Talent finalist Rob King in An Evening with Rob King.

Beyond theatre, Helen has performed in Gatecrasher Classical shows across the UK, including London, Liverpool, Birmingham, Sheffield, Newcastle, and more.

More recently Helen has been playing around the UK with "A Beautiful Noise - The Definitive Tribute to Neil Diamond" featuring Fisher Stevens.

Her orchestral experience includes the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain, the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, and the Piccadilly Symphony Orchestra, performing under conductors such as Paul Mann, Ilan Volkov, Jac van Steen, and David Hill. A standout moment of her early career was touring China with NYOS in 2015 and performing at the BBC Proms in 2016 in a programme featuring Stravinsky’s Firebird.

Helen is also a passionate educator. She teaches around 30 private students each week and works as a violin instructor with the Dumfries & Galloway Instrumental Music Service. Her pupils regularly take part in local competitions and sit ABRSM or Trinity exams. She has also mentored young musicians through the National Children’s Orchestra of GB, including during their online programme in the Covid‑19 pandemic.

Beginning violin at the age of four through the Galloway Suzuki Group, Helen has spent her life immersed in music. Today, she continues to perform, teach, and inspire musicians of all ages with her warm, supportive approach and her love of the violin.
